Wedding Jewelry

When it comes to wedding jewelry, nothing carries more meaning or long-term value than the engagement ring and wedding band. These are more than accessories, they are daily symbols of commitment, style and your shared story. The key is choosing pieces that feel wearable and uniquely yours.

An engagement ring might mark the beginning of your story, but your wedding bands are what you’ll wear every single day. Together, they create a bridal set that reflects both your style and your commitment, making them some of the most important jewelry decisions you’ll ever make.

The Engagement Ring

This ring is often the centerpiece and for a good reason. It is traditionally given during a proposal and represents intention, promise and the start of forever. The classic choice is a solitaire ring. It is timeless, elegant and endlessly versatile. This setting never goes out style, pairs effortlessly with wedding bands and keeps the focus on the center diamond.

Other types of settings include the fancy solitaire, bezel, halo, double halo and hidden halo, cathedral, three-stone and split shank.

Fancy solitaire is a twist on the traditional solitaire setting. It still has the single center stone, but also features subtle design elements like decorative prongs, unique band shapes or hidden detail beneath the stone. This setting keeps the timeless appeal of a solitaire but adds personality and elegance without overwhelming the center stone.

The bezel setting surrounds the diamond with a thin rim of metal, holding it securely in place without the use of prongs. This is one of the most durable and low-maintenance settings, as it has no prongs to snag on clothing.

A halo has a circle of smaller diamonds surrounding the center stone, creating extra sparkle and making the center appear larger. A double halo adds another ring of diamonds for even more brilliance. The hidden halo setting has one ring of diamonds, but places it just beneath the center stone, visible from the side rather than the top. All of these styles enhance the center stone without requiring a larger diamond.

The cathedral setting is named for its graceful arches, which rise up from the band to support the center stone, similar to the architecture of a cathedral. Its key features are an elevated central stone with elegant, flowing lines and added structural support. It offers a classic, romantic look while also making the center stone appear more prominent.

Three-stone setting features a larger center stone flanked by two smaller stones, representing the past, present and future. This option is meaningful, substantial and offers more sparkle than a single-stone design.

A split shank setting has a band that divides into two or more strands as it approaches the center stone. This creates visual width and presence, allows for additional diamonds or detailing and frames the center stone beautifully.

Wedding Bands

If the engagement ring is the statement, the wedding band is the foundation. It’s exchanged during the ceremony and is typically worn every day, so comfort and durability matter just as much as style.

When choosing a band, think of your rings as a set, not separate pieces. Consider how your rings are going to fit together. If you want a simple flat band, the engagement ring should have a center stone that sits up higher. Contour or curved bands sit flush with engagement rings without pushing against the diamond. Diamond jackets fit seamlessly around the engagement ring creating one cohesive piece. Some brides choose a perfectly matched set while others mix styles for a more layered, personal look.

Men’s bands have evolved far beyond simple gold rings. Today’s options give you way more room to match your style and lifestyle. Classic metals or modern metals, what finish and band width, to match with your partner or not are questions you should ask yourself before choosing a ring.

Classic metals include gold in yellow, white or rose and platinum. Gold is traditional and versatile, while platinum is heavier and more durable than gold and its natural white color won’t fade. These metals are easy to size and are best for someone who wants a timeless look that will never feel dated.

Modern metals like tungsten, titanium and cobalt are best if your day-to-day life involves working with your hands or staying active. Tungsten is extremely scratch-resistant, while titanium is lightweight and strong and cobalt is naturally white like platinum but at a more affordable price point. Many alternative metals can’t be resized, so getting the right fit is important.

Two rings in the same metal can look completely different depending on the finish. Polished finish offers a high shine, very classic and dressy. If you want something understated and modern go with a matte or brushed finished. Satin finishes are somewhere between matte and polished giving off a soft sheen. The hammered finish gives a textured and rugged feel.

Band width and fit are where comfort really comes into play. Bands that are 4-6mm are sleek and subtle, 6-8mm are most popular and give a balanced look and 8mm+ are great for making a statement. The standard fit is a flat interior, but the comfort fit has a rounded interior making it much easier to wear daily.

Men’s bands also don’t have to be plain. It is up to you whether you want diamond accents, mixed metals, engravings or unique elements like wood inlays or geometric patterns. Small details can make a big difference.

There is no rule that says your ring has to match your partner, but they should feel like they go together. Some couples choose the same metal or similar finishes or textures to give a cohesive look. It’s less about being identical and more about feeling connected.

Natural or Lab-Grown Diamonds

Natural diamonds were formed over billions of years and carry traditional value. They are more likely to have inclusions and often will not be as large as a lab-grown. The lab-grown diamonds are visually identical but often are more affordable and sustainable. Both are real diamonds, so the choice comes down to budget and personal preference.

Creating a Set that Lasts a Lifetime

Your engagement ring and wedding bands should feel just as right years from now as they do when you first get them. Choose timeless designs over trends, high-quality craftmanship and pieces that fit your lifestyle. These aren’t just rings, they are part of your everyday life, your milestones, your memories and your story.
